They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but Leyton Orient doesn’t agree.
The London-based League One side took umbrage with Wrexham’s badge design for the Championship club’s new third kit. The badge features two dragons holding onto a football akin to the O’s regular badge that pictures a pair of wyverns.
“What are you playing at, [Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney]?” the team’s social media account wrote to Wrexham’s celebrity co-owners with a video of former England manager accusing a reporter of “taking the piss.”
Orient has worn its current badge since 1976.
The current dragon row is the second such incident of the summer for Wrexham. In July, the team pulled a training jacket from its team shop after fans criticized the logo. The garment displayed a white “English” dragon, which the mythical enemy of the Welsh red dragon.
Orient has started its League One season with a win and loss and currently sit 10th in the table. The team is back in action on Saturday with a visit from Barnsley.
Wrexham, in its second season in the Championship, has drawn its first two matches against Cardiff City and Watford. The team next plays on Friday afternoon as it welcomes Birmingham City.
