Kylian Mbappé made it nine goals in his last nine matches for France on Friday, but it came with a cost.
Minutes after scoring the first goal of the Zinedine Zidane era in a Nations League match with Turkiye, the Real Madrid forward was forced to come off with an apparent injury to his leg. It’s possible that Mbappé incurred the injury while scoring the goal.
The 27-year-old Paris native scored his 67th international goal, a national record, in the 54th minute. Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise was credited with an assist on the marker. Immediately after scoring, Mbappé began to favour his leg.
After a few minutes of trying to play on, the former Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain star went to ground. Trainers came onto the field and the decision was made for Mbappé to come off. He was substituted in the 59th by PSG’s Destiny Doué.
A prolonged absence will come as a blow to Los Blancos with Mbappé enjoying a strong start to the season under new manager Jose Mourinho. In seven league matches, Mbappé has seven goals. He appeared in 31 La Liga games last season, scoring 25 goals.
