Celtic’s busy summer could continue with a bid for Alistair Johnston.
The Daily Record’s Michael Gannon reports the Scottish champions are expecting a bid from Everton for the Canada right-back.
Johnston, 27, joined the Bhoys after the 2022 World Cup from CF Montreal. The Vancouver native has become a hugely important figure at the club, both on and off the pitch, and is a popular player amongst supporters. Injuries limited Johnston to just seven appearances in the league last season.
Gannon notes the Toffees could bid up to £15 million for Johnston, but there’s no guarantee that would be enough for a sale with Celtic neither wanting nor needing to move on from the player.
Johnston, who played collegiately at St. John’s and Wake Forest, was the 11th overall pick of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by Nashville SC with whom he made his professional debut in 2020. He played three seasons in MLS, two with Nashville and one with CFMTL, before he move to Europe. In four seasons at Parkhead, Johnston has made 122 appearances across all competitions and won two Scottish League Cups, three Scottish Cups and four Scottish Premiership titles.
Internationally, Johnston has been capped 63 times by Canada since his senior debut in 2021. He played every minute of Canada’s five matches at the 2026 World Cup. Johnston has one international goal, scored in a World Cup qualifier in 2021 against the Cayman Islands.
Celtic opens up their 2026-2027 campaign on Aug. 23 against Dundee. They will enter the Champions League in the play-off round with the draw set to be held on Monday.
