Allan Saint-Maximin is heading stateside.

The 29-year-old winger is joining Charlotte FC as a Designated Player, The Athletic’s Tom Bogert reports.

The former Newcastle and Club America player is available on a free transfer.

A native of the Paris area, Saint-Maximin joined Lens, Ligue 1’s surprise package last season, in January and scored three goals in 14 appearances across all competitions. Lens finished as runners-up in the league and won the Coupe de France for the first time in the club’s 120-year history.

A product of the Saint-Etienne academy, Saint-Maximin has also had spells at Monaco, Hannover 96, Nice and Fenerbahce.

Internationally, Saint-Maximin represented France at a number of youth levels, but does not have a senior cap.

Charlotte currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference on 21 points. The team returns to action on July 22 at home to Atlanta United.
