Spain’s midfield general Rodri added to his silverware on Sunday. The Manchester City star won the Golden Ball as the top player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 30-year-old Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d’Or after Spain won the Euro in 2024. Another such honour could be in his future come this winter.
Earlier, Unai Simon claimed the Golden Glove as the FIFA World Cup’s top goalkeeper.
Simon conceded just a single goal over the eight matches Spain played in, a marker against in the quarters versus Belgium.
And Pau Cubarsi has been named the FIFA World Cup’s Young Player of the Tournament.
The Spain centre-back is still only 19 and played all eight of Spain’s matches.
France forward Kylian Mbappe claimed the Golden Boot, becoming the first player to win the award twice.
The 27-year-old French phenom finished this World Cup with 10 goals, two more than Argentina’s Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot, which is awarded to the tournament’s top scorer.
Mbappe also moved past Messi for the career World Cup scoring record with 22 goals, scoring twice in a 6-4 loss to England in Saturday’s third-place match.
Mbappé scored eight goals to win the Golden Boot four years ago in Qatar, while his 10 in this year’s tournament matched the third most in a World Cup all-time.
