Report: Whitecaps finalizing deal to sell Berhalter to Middlesbrough

Published:

It appears Sebastian Berhalter may have played his last game with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

According to The Athletic, Championship side Middlesbrough is finalizing a deal to sign the American midfielder from Vancouver.

Berhalter played in all five games for the United States at the FIFA World Cup, scoring against Turkey in his lone start during the group round. He has yet to return to the Whitecaps lineup since being loaned to the USMNT.

The 25-year-old, who was born in London, has been with the Whitecaps since 2022 and has six goals and seven assists in 13 starts this season.

The Athletic reports Berhalter is playing under an expiring contract and Middlesbrough are expected to pay a fee of roughly $2 million to the Whitecaps for his services.
