AEW National Championship match: Andrade El Idolo (c) vs. “Jungle” Jack Perry vs. “The Prodigy” Nick Wayne (w/ Mother Wayne)
Andrade El Idolo’s quest for AEW gold finally ended this past Sunday night in Montreal. At the Redemption pay-per-view, Andrade overcame the brutality of Mark Davis to win the AEW National Championship. The former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion planted Davis with the DM to win the title.
But Andrade won’t have time to rest on his laurels. He will make his first defence of his newly won crown on Wednesday night in an intriguing three-way match against former champion Jack Perry and Nick Wayne. Both of Andrade’s opponents were also in action on Sunday night, unsuccessfully challenging for an AEW International Championship title shot in a six-way ladder match ultimately won by “Speedball” Mike Bailey.
Perry defeated inaugural champion Ricochet back in March at Revolution in Los Angeles. He would go on to defend the championship three times before dropping it to Davis in May. It was Perry’s second singles title in AEW after previously having held the TNT Championship.
Wayne made his return to AEW back on the July 18 edition of Collision in a loss, coincidentally, to Perry. The 21-year-old Seattle native had been in Japan for much of the earlier summer competing in New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament. Wayne finished on 10 points in Block A, two points back of the block’s semifinalists, Master Wato and Kosei Fujita. The tournament was ultimately won by YOH.
Like Perry, Wayne is also looking to reclaim some gold. A former AEW World Trios Champion, Wayne defeated Komander on the Apr. 17, 2025 edition of Collision to win the ROH World Television Championship. Wayne would go on to establish the second-longest single reign in the title’s history, holding it for 387 days before losing it to AR Fox back in May.
After going through what he did to finally win a championship, it would be a huge blow to Andrade to lose it immediately. While you wouldn’t necessarily bet on that happening, his opponents on Wednesday night have championship pedigree and in a three-way dance all bets are off. In fact, Andrade doesn’t even have to be pinned or submitted to lose his title.
Will Andrade’s reign begin in earnest or will Perry or Wayne spoil the party?

TBS Championship match: “The It Girl” Maya World (c) vs. CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone
Maya World’s meteoric rise reached new heights at Redemption. The 24-year-old Texan picked up the biggest victory of her young career when she upset Hikaru Shida to win the TBS Championship in Montreal. After Shida seemingly had the match in control, World hit the champion with a bridging fallaway slam to get the pin and the title.
Now the real work begins for World and her reign starts off on a tough note when she takes on a woman who already has a championship around her waist. Persephone, the CMLL World Women’s Champion, has the opportunity to add a second belt to her collection on Wednesday night. A fellow Texas native, Persephone will be meeting World for the first-ever time.
After beating Shida on Sunday, World must now use her as a cautionary tale. Winning the TBS Championship on the July 1 edition of Dynamite, Shida would go on to hold the title for under a month before losing it to World. She defended the title successfully only twice before dropping it. A three-time AEW Women’s World Champion, Shida’s experience and mettle wasn’t enough to avoid a colossal upset.
World is still undoubtedly on a high from her victory on Sunday. It’s imperative for her to come back down to earth before Wednesday’s match and refocus. Persephone won’t offer any mercy and she shouldn’t expect an iota of it.
For Persephone, Wednesday night’s match will be another shot at the TBS Championship. She was part of the Survival of the Fittest match back on July 1 in which Shida won the vacant title. Persephone was responsible for the eliminations of Harley Cameron and Queen Aminata and looked to be a good bet to win the match until she was surprised by a rollup from Kris Statlander. Persephone didn’t take the loss well, smashing Statlander in the face with her title belt to directly aid Shida’s victory.
Can World answer her first challenge as champion or will Persephone finally get her hands on the TBS title?

AEW World Trios Championship match: The Conglomeration (“Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly) (c) vs. The Demand (Ricochet, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun)
The biggest test of The Conglomeration’s three-month-plus reign as AEW World Trios Champions comes on Wednesday night in the form of The Demand. The team of Ricochet, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun have made no secret of their desire for six-man gold. After calling their shot, they get their chance on Dynamite.
This past Saturday night on Collision, Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly successfully defended their titles against the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions, Dalton Castle and the Outrunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd). As both teams show respect to one another after the match, all six men were jumped by The Demand and three men who want to be part of the faction in The Lethal Twist’s Jay Lethal, Blake Christian and Lee Johnson. Sitting in on commentary, Jeff Jarrett had seen enough and helped run off the attackers, laying out Ricochet with a patented guitar shot.
At Sunday’s PPV, The Conglomeration retained their titles with a defeat of The Lethal Twist. Cassidy got the win, pinning Lethal after Strong and O’Reilly hit him with Total Elimination. After the match, The Demand came out on the stage to mockingly applaud The Conglomeration.
Wednesday night’s match will mark The Conglomeration’s seventh defence of their titles. It will also be the second time that The Demand have vied for them. Ricochet, Liona and Kaun failed to wrest the titles way from then-champions, Jet Set Rodeo (“Hangman” Adam Page, “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight) on the Feb. 21 edition of Collision.
While The Demand have never been trios champions before, the GOA were two-thirds of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions in the past. Alongside Brian Cage as The Cage of Agony, Liona and Kaun held the titles on two occasions in 2022 and 2023. Ricochet has also won his share of trios titles in the past, as well. He is a three-time NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champion, winning the belts with Matt Sydal and Satoshi Kojima, Kojima and David Finlay and Ryusuke Taguchi and Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Can The Conglomeration turn away another challenger or will The Demand take their titles?

We’ll hear from AEW World Champion Kenny Omega
While Kenny Omega’s successful title defence against TNT Champion Kevin Knight made for a thrilling main event at Revolution, what happened afterwards almost overshadowed the match. Following his victory, Omega was jumped by the the Death Riders who did a number on the exhausted champion. Their arrival came as a surprise to Will Ospreay, who made his way down to the ring in protest.
Jon Moxley handed a plastic bag to Ospreay, who is set for the main event against Omega at next month’s All In at Wembley Stadium, and instructed his protege to put it over the prone Omega’s head. After some soul-searching, Ospreay couldn’t bring himself to do it, tearing up the bag. In fact, it was the final straw for Ospreay, who turned on the Death Riders and cleared the ring of his former stablemates.
But was that too little too late for Omega? Once it was only the champion and challenger in the ring, Omega planted Ospreay with the One-Winged Angel. Clearly, the Winnipeg native had enough of Ospreay’s association with the Death Riders, even if he finally disavowed it.
On Wednesday night, Omega will address his actions in Montreal and let Ospreay know exactly what he’s thinking ahead of the Aug. 31 pay-per-view.

AEW World Tag Team Champions Cage & Cope (Christian Cage and “The Rated-R Superstar” Adam Copeland) meet The Young Bucks (Nick Jackson and Matt Jackson) face-to-face
Renee Paquette will moderate a meeting between the two teams who will compete for the AEW World Tag Team Championships in London at All In on Dynamite. The match between Cage & Cope and The Young Bucks is one that few thought would ever be possible and represents a bout between two of the finest tag teams of all-time.
At Redemption, Cage & Cope successfully fended off the challenge of the Death Riders’ Claudio Castagnoli and PAC. After the match, Nick Jackson and Matt Jackson made their way down to the ring to make their challenge official. While Adam Copeland offered handshakes to his opponents, Christian Cage decidedly did not, something that shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anybody remotely familiar with the man.
On Dynamite, the two teams will have the chance to speak about their dream match and Cage will undoubtedly have some bon mots to deliver.

Willow Nightingale holds an AEW Women’s World Championship celebration
Willow Nightingale is the AEW Women’s World Champion. The Conglomeration member climbed the summit in Montreal, defeating Thekla for the title and becoming just the third woman to have held both the AEW World Championship and TBS Championship. Before her defence against old foe Mercedes Mone at All In, Nightingale will soak in her victory a little bit with a title celebration.
