Morning Coffee: FanDuel bettors back Rams, fade Super Bowl champion Seahawks

Published:

Remember the biggest tournament of the summer?

We spent months preparing for it, weeks delivering the best coverage in the world, celebrated some massive wins together – and then, just like that, it was all over.

Lights out.

It feels like five minutes ago we were counting down to the opening whistle, locked in as if the event would last forever, understanding that if we failed, we would never forget it.

Instead, we produced a different type of unforgettable.

Those wins are the best part of working in this business.

The worst part is how quickly they are forgotten.

Two weeks later, nobody cares about what we did then.

All that matters now is what we do next.

Last week, I spent most of my time preparing to turn the page to the next chapter in this story.

The biggest tournament of the summer more than lived up to the hype, but it also set me back in terms of what it will take to be ready for the second half of 2026.

The MLB trade deadline is in the books.

My pre-season pick to win the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers, traded for Tarik Skubal and are down to +160 as the obvious favourite to win it all at FanDuel.

Speaking of LA, remember back in March when I told you not to sleep on the state’s NFL teams heading into the NFL free agency negotiation period?

Well, five months later, the Rams are the obvious favourite to win the Super Bowl at FanDuel, while the Chargers are locked in among the top five choices.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Game is Thursday night.

We’re only 36 days away from the NFL regular season.

Fantasy football draft season is officially underway, FanDuel’s list of NFL futures seems limitless, and the countdown to kick-off at Lumen Field in Seattle is on.

We’ve got a ton of ground to cover between now and the NFL opener on Wednesday, Sept. 9th.

So, let’s begin at the end, with a look at the most popular bets to win the Super Bowl at FanDuel in this Morning Coffee column for Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026.

FanDuel bettors Back Rams, fade Super Bowl champion Seahawks

The defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will kick off the 2026 NFL regular season with a rematch against the New England Patriots on NFL Opening Night.

The last time we saw Mike McDonald’s defence in action, the Seahawks suffocated Drake Maye with six sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery in a lopsided 29-13 victory at Super Bowl 60.

Running back Kenneth Walker III rumbled for 135 rushing yards and added two receptions for 26 yards to cash our longshot Super Bowl MVP tickets at +6500.

Walker is in Kansas City now, and nobody cares about those Super Bowl MVP tickets, but Seattle will attempt to pick up from where it left off as a 3.5-point favourite versus New England on NFL opening night.

The Seahawks are +1100 to repeat as Super Bowl champions at FanDuel.

Despite running back most of the pieces that led them to a ring, Seattle isn’t the favourite to win it all, nor are they among the three most popular bets to win the Super Bowl at FanDuel this off-season.

However, the team that checks both of those boxes does play in the NFC West.

The Rams are +550 to win the Super Bowl at FanDuel.

LA is also the most popular bet to win it all as the lone contender with shorter than 11-to-1 odds at FanDuel.

After falling just short against the Seahawks in the NFC Championship, the Rams went all-in to win this off-season with the additions of Myles Garrett, Trent McDuffie, and Jaylen Watson among others.

LA has the pieces to contend for a ring when healthy.

On paper, they are the obvious Super Bowl favourite.

First up, the Rams must take care of business against the Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and the Arizona Cardinals in their division.

An argument can be made that the NFC West is the best division in football, featuring three of the top nine choices to win the Super Bowl at FanDuel in LA, Seattle, and San Francisco.

Nevertheless, the Rams are -115 to win the NFC West – the shortest odds of any division favourite outside of the Buffalo Bills at -130 to win the AFC East.

The Seahawks are +210 to repeat as NFC West champs.

The 49ers are +340 as a distant third choice.

Per the FanDuel traders, LA has accounted for 45 per cent of all bets in the NFC West winner market.

Meanwhile, Seattle and Arizona are tied for the lowest percentage of bets to win the division, with both clubs accounting for exactly 15 per cent of the bets.

In 2025, the Seahawks went 14-3 to clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Yet, 59 per cent of the bets at FanDuel are on Seattle to stay under 10.5 regular season wins, per their traders.

Meanwhile, the Rams are the second-most popular bet to earn the NFC’s No. 1 seed at +260.

The Seahawks are the defending Super Bowl champions and are available at better odds in FanDuel NFL futures markets, yet the betting public has been much more willing to back Los Angeles.

Time will tell if it’s the right call.

In case you’re wondering, the most popular bet to finish with the NFC’s best record at FanDuel is the Chicago Bears at +1500.

The Bears are also the third-most popular bet to win the Super Bowl at +2700, trailing only the Rams (+550) and the Buffalo Bills (+1100).

Their 24-year-old franchise quarterback has garnered a lot of attention in the NFL regular season MVP market.

As for the Rams, they’ve clearly emerged as the obvious chalk with the betting public all over LA to win the NFC West and the Super Bowl in recent weeks at FanDuel.

With the additions of Garrett, McDuffie, and Watson, as well as the potential return of Aaron Donald, I can’t wait to find out if the Rams can live up to the hype.

It won’t be much longer until we see them in action.

We’re 36 days away from the start of the NFL season.

Until then, we’ll continue the countdown with a lot of work to do between now and September 9th.

It’s good to be back.

Have a great day, everyone!
