The Montreal Alouettes’ return to the Grey Cup was supposed to be a reason for celebration.
Instead, every Alouettes fan that I’ve connected with this week has expressed the same anxious sentiment.
They don’t know what to expect from their star QB.
What we do know is that Davis Alexander required an MRI to determine the extent of his injury immediately after the CFL Eastern Final.
While both Alexander and head coach Jason Maas have promised that he will start and play in the Grey Cup, we might not get a better idea of his limitations until after the 112th Grey Cup kicks off.
Alexander told reporters that he plans to spend the week in Winnipeg getting treatment with “four to five” rehab sessions every day.
The uncertainty surrounding the Alexander injury forced the FanDuel traders to adjust the spread for the 112th Grey Cup from Saskatchewan Roughriders -1.5 to -3.5.
Meanwhile, FanDuel went ahead and beat the market with a long list of player props for the 112th Grey Cup.
Of course, the first thing that football fans went to look for this morning was any Alexander player props.
Sure enough, FanDuel released an over/under for the number of passing yards that Alexander will record.
At first glance, it looks like an optimistic number.
Let’s take a closer look at the Alexander player props and lock in a FanDuel Best Bet for the 112th Grey Cup in this Morning Coffee for Wednesday November 12th, 2025.
FanDuel Sets Expectations for Davis Alexander with 112th Grey Cup Props
Alexander is a perfect 13-0 as a CFL starter, including playoffs.
He went 8-0 in eight regular season starts this season.
In those eight starts, Alexander threw for 2024 yards and 10 touchdowns with three interceptions.
He averaged 253 passing yards per game.
In the Grey Cup Playoffs Eastern Semi-Final, Alexander exploded for 384 yards and a touchdown in a 42-33 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
He also ran for 32 yards and a score.
Then in the Grey Cup Playoffs Eastern Final, Alexander threw for 210 yards and a touchdown, while adding another 64 yards on seven rushing attempts.
Alexander hasn’t faced Saskatchewan yet this season.
However, at full strength, the match-up on paper doesn’t look like one that would be too difficult to overcome.
The Riders did an excellent job in terms of limiting opposing teams from scoring with a CFL-best 22.7 points allowed per game this season.
However, Saskatchewan was much better at stopping the run and forcing turnovers than shutting down its opponents through the air.
In fact, the Riders ranked seventh out of nine CFL teams with an average of 266.0 passing yards allowed per game.
In the Grey Cup Playoffs Western Final, BC Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke went 20-of-30 for 290 yards and a touchdown against the Saskatchewan defence.
Fortunately for the Riders, Trevor Harris led a 24-21 comeback win with 305 yards and two touchdowns.
Harris will face a much tougher test this week against a Montreal defence that held its opponents to a CFL-best 238.8 passing yards per game.
FanDuel set Harris’ passing yards prop at 278.5.
Meanwhile, the match-up on the other side of the football is the one that everybody is talking about with Alexander’s status unknown.
FanDuel set Alexander’s passing yards prop for the 112th Grey Cup at over/under 258.5.
That’s slightly above his average of 253 passing yards per game in eight regular season starts.
Alexander anytime touchdown is +650 at FanDuel.
Alexander first touchdown is +4000.
Alexander to score and Montreal to win is +1360.
As expected, there’s no Alexander rushing yards prop.
Including playoffs, Alexander has thrown for more than 258.5 passing yards in five of his 10 starts this season.
In all five instances in which he went over 258.5, he threw for at least 300 yards.
We know that Alexander will start and play on Sunday.
We know that he will not be at 100 per cent.
The question remains how healthy is Alexander and will he be able to play from start to finish?
If Alexander can overcome the injury and play a full four quarters, he’ll have a legitimate shot to throw for more than 258.5 passing yards against a pass-funnel Saskatchewan defence.
If Alexander is limited or he aggravates the injury and is forced to leave the game, he’ll have no shot to hit 259.
Full marks to the FanDuel traders for giving us an Alexander passing yards prop this early in the week.
At the very least, it’s a positive sign for Alouettes fans that have been constantly refreshing their social media feeds looking for more information on the injury.
Full disclosure, I would love to see Alexander overcome the injury and lead Montreal to a Grey Cup victory.
After all, Alexander is one of the most talented young players in the CFL, and he has a chance to make history on Sunday by extending his perfect record as a starter in the league to 14-0.
The Riders are the FanDuel favourite and would be a tough beat even if Alexander was 100 per cent.
I still believe a limited Alexander has the potential to throw for more than 258.5 passing yards, especially if he can’t fully utilize his mobility and scramble.
However, considering the potential severity of the injury and the possibility for heavy winds and freezing temperatures in Winnipeg, I’m compelled to play Alexander under 258.5 passing yards with the belief that this number won’t climb higher.
Alexander under 258.5 passing yards is a best bet.
Alexander under 1.5 touchdown passes is a best bet.
Once again, I’d love nothing more than for Alexander to shine and force me to go 0-2 with those two plays.
Considering his status for Sunday’s game is in the air, I’m comfortable doubling down with the under for a pair of Alexander props in the 112th Grey Cup.
