We’ve seen some dramatic comebacks throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Last night, the Carolina Hurricanes delivered arguably the most impressive of them all when they did something that hasn’t been done in a Stanley Cup Final in 82 years.
The Hurricanes are the first team to win a Stanley Cup Final game after being down multiple goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation since the Montreal Canadiens did it against the Chicago Blackhawks all the way back in 1944.
Carolina was +900 to win live at FanDuel down two goals.
Seth Jarvis scored the overtime winner, the Hurricanes rallied in Raleigh to improve to 6-0 in OT this postseason, and the Stanley Cup Final will head to Nevada tied 1-1.
With the victory, the Hurricanes went from +125 to win the Stanley Cup to the favourite once again at -142.
The Vegas Golden Knights flipped from -150 to +118.
Game 3 in Las Vegas is a pick’em at FanDuel this morning.
This is the second Stanley Cup Final ever to begin with back-to-back multi-goal comeback wins.
Vegas was as high as +560 to win Game 1 live.
Carolina was as high as +900 to win Game 2 live.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks could be found as high as +1000 to beat the San Antonio Spurs live down 14 points in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
New York rallied to win that game 105-95 on the road and flip their title odds from +164 to -134 at FanDuel.
San Antonio went from -196 to +114 after the loss.
The Spurs have been a popular pick to bounce back with the spread for Game 2 climbing from San Antonio -5.5 to -6.5 at FanDuel over the past 24 hours.
Over the last 11 seasons, the outright winners have gone a combined 63-3-3 against the spread in the NBA Finals.
That 95.45 per cent win rate includes the Knicks’ comeback win as the underdog in Game 1.
Will that remarkable NBA Finals trend continue tonight?
After watching three comeback wins unfold in as many nights in the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Final, I’m hoping I get the opportunity to bet Game 2 live tonight.
Meanwhile, the 2026 CFL season kicked off with the Montreal Alouettes completing an impressive comeback win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in overtime.
Trailing 24-10 midway through the third quarter, the Alouettes could be found as high as +1060 to win live.
A 54-yard pick-six by Robert Kennedy III sparked the Montreal rally and they outscored Hamilton 20-3 the rest of the way, including the game-winning field goal by Jose Maltos Diaz in OT after Kabion Ento forced a fumble.
While I wrote about the potential for the TiCats to start the season with a measure of redemption, the home fans were dealt a finish that was eerily similar to a loss to the Alouettes in the Eastern Final, which ended with a walk-off field goal.
Tonight, Week 1 of the CFL season continues with a West Division showdown between the Calgary Stampeders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Will the Stampeders open the season with a home win?
Or will the Bombers spoil the party in Calgary?
Let’s set the stage for tonight’s CFL action in this Morning Coffee for Friday June 5th, 2026.
Stampeders Begin Path To The 113th Grey Cup In Calgary Versus Bombers
The 113th Grey Cup will take place in Calgary this season.
Unlike a year ago when the Stampeders entered Week 1 as the biggest longshot to win it all at +2400, expectations are much higher this time around.
Calgary is +850 as the fifth choice to win the Grey Cup.
The Stampeders regular season win total is set at 8.5.
Veteran quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. is +1500 to win the CFL regular season most outstanding player award in his second season in Calgary.
Dedrick Mills is back at running back as the second choice to lead the CFL in rushing yards at +320.
Mills led the league with 1,409 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns last season.
Adams’ ability to make plays with his arm and legs combined with the power and vision that Mills showed off at the running back position took the Calgary offence to another level last season.
However, the Stampeders lost wide receivers Damien Alford and Dominque Rhymes in the offseason, bringing in Dejon Brissett in free agency to help fill their spots.
Brissett will team with Jalen Philpot and a relatively unproven cast of wide receivers to begin the season.
Veteran Reggie Begelton will start the season on the six-game injured list.
Clark Barnes is also banged up for the Stampeders.
The good news is that the Calgary defence will return largely intact after taking a big step forward last season.
The Stampeders surprised a lot of people in 2025 when they went 11-7 after entering the regular season with a win total set at over/under 7.5.
How will this group handle the additional pressure and scrutiny that comes with Calgary hosting the Grey Cup?
It certainly doesn’t help that the Stampeders play in the same division as three of the top four choices to win the Grey Cup at FanDuel.
Tonight, they’ll host one of them in their home opener as Zach Collaros and the Blue Bombers come to town.
Winnipeg went 10-8 last season and ultimately fell short when it mattered most with a 42-33 loss to Montreal in the CFL Eastern Semi-Final.
Despite several setbacks, the Bombers opted to run it back with a veteran core that features the 37-year-old Collaros, 35-year-old Willie Jefferson, and the 40-year-old Stanley Bryant.
Winnipeg is the fourth choice to win the Grey Cup at +750 at FanDuel.
The Bombers are also one of three teams with a regular season win total set at 10.5, although it’s heavily juiced to the under at -150.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are the defending Grey Cup champions, while the BC Lions are the favourite to win the West Division.
Where will Winnipeg and Calgary finish this season?
The Bombers are -250 to win the regular season series versus the Stampeders at FanDuel.
Winnipeg to win the head-to-head series 3-0 is +280 and to win it 2-1 is +100.
Calgary to win the head-to-head series 2-1 is +230 and to win it 3-0 is +1300.
Last season, the Stampeders won all three meetings, outscoring the Bombers a combined 106-63.
In fact, Winnipeg hasn’t won in Calgary since 2023.
The West Division is absolutely stacked with four teams that are considered legitimate Grey Cup contenders.
While the CFL season is a marathon, these head-to-head match-ups between West Division contenders will carry an added weight when it comes to where they finish.
The Bombers are -126 to open the season with a victory on the road tonight.
The Stampeders are +105 to win their home opener.
I’ll roll the dice on Winnipeg -1.5 for tonight’s game.
The Stampeders have dominated head-to-head, but turnover and injuries at wide receiver could be an issue.
Plus, the Bombers lack of success in Calgary should serve as added motivation heading into the opener of a season series in which every win will be critical in the standings.
Hopefully, tonight’s highly anticipated West Division showdown lives up to the billing and we get another great game on Friday Night Football.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
