Jayden Daniels turns 26-years-old in December.
It’s only his third NFL season, but the arc feels longer.
Two years ago, Daniels was the unanimous AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year winner.
He was the electric young QB who managed to drag the Washington Commanders to the playoffs in one of the most remarkable one-year turnarounds in NFL history.
Two years later, the injuries have piled up, consistency is a concern, and the focus has shifted from his ceiling to whether the roster around him is good enough for the Commanders to climb out of the NFC East basement.
Last week, Daniels became the first QB to score multiple 25-yard rushing touchdowns in the same game since Michael Vick accomplished that feat in 2002.
Washington was fortunate to escape with a 27-27 tie.
Daniels is top 10 in the NFL in QBR and one of four qualified passers that didn’t throw an interception through the first five weeks of the season.
Still, the Commanders are 1-3-1 and staring down another loss as a 7.5-point underdog at FanDuel for tonight’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers are 5-0 and have allowed just 33 total rushing yards to opposing quarterbacks so far this season.
Their schedule has certainly helped in that department, but their defence ranks top six in both points per game allowed (18.6) and total yards allowed per game (297.2).
With Brock Purdy playing at an MVP level, and San Francisco’s defence able to key on Daniels’ dual-threat ability, the home fans at Levi’s Stadium are expecting to see another win on Monday Night Football.
Let’s set the stage and break down my FanDuel Best Bet for tonight’s game in this Morning Coffee column for Monday October 19th, 2026.
Purdy Primed To Add To MVP Resume On Monday Night Football
Purdy leads the entire NFL with 2.6 touchdown passes per game this season.
His 13 TD passes are the third-most by a 49ers QB through five games all-time behind only Steve Young and Joe Montana.
Purdy also leads the NFL with an 85.7 QBR and has a golden opportunity to add to his impressive start tonight.

Only the Detroit Lions (25.0) allowed more receptions per game to opposing wide receivers and tight ends than the Commanders (21.0) through five games this season.
San Francisco added Deebo Samuel to a long list of injured pass-catchers that already features Demarcus Robinson, Christian Kirk, Ricky Pearsall, and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling this week.
However, Mike Evans and George Kittle are good to go.
Evans leads the 49ers with 326 yards and four scores.
Kittle is right behind him with 268 yards and four TDs.
Then there is Christian McCaffrey, who is set for his first career meeting with his brother Luke McCaffrey.
CMC has fewer touches through five games than he did last year but remains in a featured role for San Francisco.

Meanwhile, Purdy has performed at an elite level versus the blitz with a 136.5 rating and eight TD passes.
Washington blitzes at the second-highest rate in the NFL.
With Samuel sidelined, my eyes immediately went to Kittle as the biggest beneficiary in the passing game.

Kittle cleared 70 or more receiving yards in three straight games before he registered 24 on five receptions in last week’s win over the Seattle Seahawks.
The Commanders have allowed 74.4 receiving yards on 6.4 receptions per game this season.
In terms of defensive tendencies, Washington plays with two-high safeties at the highest rate in the NFL (71.4%).
Kittle has excelled against those two-high looks with a 3.69 yards per route run and 0.28 targets per route run.

He also gets a bump with Samuel out of the lineup.
I locked in Kittle over 62.5 receiving yards as my FanDuel Best Bet for Monday Night Football.
I also played a Same Game Parlay with Kittle to register 70+ receiving yards and a touchdown in a win for the 49ers at +273 odds at FanDuel.
Hopefully, Purdy can pick up where he left off and target his star tight end with a favourable matchup against the visiting Commanders on Monday Night Football.
Have a great day, everyone!
