WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Sea Bears basketball team says its star player was badly injured this weekend after being attacked by security staff at a downtown nightclub.

The team says guard Teddy Allen is out of hospital but may need surgery and will miss Thursday’s playoff game against the Saskatoon Mamba.

Winnipeg police say they are investigating.

The team, in a statement, described Allen’s injuries as “significant” but did not elaborate.

The 28-year-old from Arizona leads the Canadian Elite Basketball League in scoring.

The Sea Bears say no one should be subjected to what it terms brutality.
