Damien Alford is back with the Calgary Stampeders.
The Canadian wide receiver has signed a deal to return to the Stampeders after a stint with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, the team announced on Wednesday.
Alford, 21, made 15 appearances for Calgary last season after being selected first overall in the 2025 CFL Canadian Draft, hauling in 20 receptions for 407 yards and five touchdowns across his rookie campaign.
After helping Calgary reach the Western Semi-Finals last year, the Montreal native signed a reserves/futures contract with the Saints in January, but was waived with an injury designation last month.
“We have been tracking Damien since he was released in the NFL,” said head coach and general manager Dave Dickeson in a press release announcing the deal. “He is a special talent. He will make us even more explosive as an offence. We are excited to bring him back.”
The 6-foot-6, 224-pound wideout was drafted out of Utah after four years at Syracuse, recording 1,291 receiving yards in 46 collegiate games.
Calgary also announced the signing of American defensive back Lance Boykin.
Boykin, 25, most recently played in the USFL, making 19 appearances between the Memphis Showboats and the Birmingham Stallions.
The Greensboro, NC native was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Coastal Carolina, and played in one regular-season game with the team in 2023 before being released in training camp ahead of the 2024 season.
Calgary has fallen to fourth place in the West with a 2-4 record to open the year, and now look to rebound in Week 8 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
