Zach Collaros is on the road back to action.
The veteran quarterback wasn’t in uniform at Winnipeg Blue Bombers practice on Monday, but he was throwing ahead of it.
Collaros, 37, was placed on the six-game injured list last week. He picked up a neck injury during the team’s Week 5 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Cincinnati product took a hard sack from Reggie Stubblefield in the 14-13 win.
A native of Steubenville, OH, Collaros is in his 14th CFL season and sixth with the Bombers. Prior to his injury, Collaros had thrown for 985 yards on 74-for-103 passing with five touchdowns and three interceptions. A two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player, Collaros has won three Grey Cups including a pair with the Bombers in 2019 and 2021.
With Collaros out, Dru Brown has started in his stead. The Oklahoma State product is in his second stint with the team. Brown led the team to a 30-21 victory over the Toronto Argonauts, throwing for 339 yards in the win, on July 10 before a 36-34 overtime win over his former team, the Ottawa Redblacks, on July 19.
The Bombers lost for the first time under Brown this past Friday, 52-30 to the Calgary Stampeders. Brown, 29, struggled mightily in the defeat, throwing for four interceptions.
The Blue Bombers (4-3) sit third in the West. They return to action on Thursday with a visit from the BC Lions (1-5).
