Dolegala named starter for Tiger-Cats’ Week 6 matchup vs. Roughriders

Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ quarterback Jake Dolegala has been named the starter for the team’s Week 6 contest against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, head coach Scott Milanovich said Wednesday.

This comes after back-to-back Most Outstanding Player finalist Bo Levi Mitchell was stretchered off early in the third quarter of Hamilton’s 14-13 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday after suffering a serious ankle injury.

The 29-year-old saw game action alongside fellow quarterback Tre Ford in the loss, though Dolegala has largely been used as the team’s short-yardage quarterback till this point, recording 14 carries for 22 yards and three touchdowns in 2026.

The 6-foot-7, 242-pound pivot has experience in taking over as a starter during a season, doing the same for the team he is playing Sunday, the Roughriders, in 2023.

After taking the place of an underperforming Mason Fine who came in for an injured Trevor Harris, Dolegala made nine starts and completed 216-of-333 passes (64.9 per cent) for 2,641 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran 26 times for 95 yards and a touchdown.
