The Edmonton Elks locked up a key piece of their secondary on Wednesday, inking defensive back Tyrell Ford through the 2027 season.

Ford, 27, appeared in all 18 games for the Elks this season, his first with the team, recording 56 tackles and hauling in two picks.

“Tyrell Ford’s contract extension is a move that reinforces our commitment to building a championship-caliber team,” general manager Ed Hervey said in a statement. “His consistency and professionalism reflect the culture we are establishing, and this decision underscores our focus on continuity, elite talent, and long-term success.”

A native of Niagara Falls, Ont., Ford was originally selected with the 13th overall pick of the 2022 CFL Draft out of Waterloo by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with whom he spent the first two seasons of his career.

A CFL All-Star in 2024, Ford has 110 tackles and nine interceptions, including a pick-six, in 54 career games.

Ford is the twin brother of Elks quarterback Tre Ford.

The Elks finished their season at 7-11, missing the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.
