The Edmonton Elks signed star running back Justin Rankin to a multi-year extension, the team announced on Tuesday.

Rankin’s new contract will keep him in Edmonton through the 2027 season.

The 5-foot-10 running back is in the midst of his second CFL season and sixth in the league in rushing yards with 838 and tied for fourth with eight rushing touchdowns.

“We’re pleased to have Justin onboard for the next two seasons,” Elks vice-president of football operations and general manager Ed Hervey said in a statement. “This signing builds on the momentum we’ve established this season, and we’re excited to see how he’ll contribute to our team’s success moving forward.”

The Elks originally signed Rankin in 2023 after a stint in the Indoor Football League. He was released prior to the 2024 season, but was brought back in July of 2024 and later worked his way into the active roster.

The 28-year-old has 1,603 rushing yards with 13 touchdowns in 26 CFL games through two seasons with the Elks.

Edmonton sits in last place in the West Division with a 6-9 record and are trying to keep their crossover playoff hopes alive when they take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Week 19.
