Jamal Peters appears to have avoided a major injury after he was taken off the field on a stretcher during the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ 37-27 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday.
The defensive back said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday morning that he has been cleared by the medical team and that he’s doing okay.
“I’m grateful to share that after being evaluated and cleared by the medical team, I’m doing okay,” Peters said.
“Thank you to the incredible medical staff, trainers, and support personnel from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers organizations for the care, professionalism, and quick response.”
Peters, 29, was taken off the field on a stretcher almost nine minutes into the first quarter. He was tackling Blue Bombers WR Tommy Nield and his helmet made contact with Nield’s knee. The Ticats announced on social media Peters was conscious and in good spirits on the way to hospital, and head coach Scott Milanovich told reporters after the game that he did not have any update.
“Shoutout to my teammates, coaches, family, and everyone who reached out, prayed, and showed support to me & my family,” Peters added in his post.
Peters is a two-time CFL All-Star, following the 2022 and 2025 seasons. The sixth-year player has spent time with the Toronto Argonauts - with whom he won the 2022 Grey Cup - and Tiger-Cats in the CFL, and also made stops with the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons of the NFL.
The Tiger-Cats (1-1) return to action in Week 3 on Friday, June 19, when they host the BC Lions at Hamilton Stadium.
