The Ottawa Redblacks have fired defensive coordinator Will Fields after Friday night’s loss that dropped them to 0-7 on the season, it was announced Saturday morning.
The team said Jeff Reinebold will take over as defensive coordinator and Nate Taylor will step in as special teams coordinator.
“Today we relieved Will Fields of his coaching duties. These decisions are always difficult. Will is a quality coach and an even better person and we want to thank him for his contributions to the Redblacks organization over the past two seasons. We wish him all the best,” the team said in a news release.
The Redblacks allowed 34 points in Friday’s lopsided loss to the Alouettes and have given up 241 total points this season, which is narrowly second most in the league behind the Calgary Stampeders (244). Ottawa (34.4) trails Calgary slightly (34.9) in opponent points per game.
Fields was named the team’s defensive coordinator on Jan. 6, 2025. He remained in the position when Ryan Dinwiddie took over as head coach this past off-season.
Ottawa will aim to pick up their first win of the season next Friday night in Saskatchewan against the Roughriders.
