Tiger-Cats extend veteran QB Mitchell through 2028 season

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed veteran quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to a two-year contract extension on Friday, keeping the 36-year-old with the organization through the 2028 CFL season.

Mitchell has played only four games this season, his fourth with the Ticats, due to an ankle injury incurred in Week 5.

Mitchell started off strong, throwing for 1,107 yards with nine touchdowns and one interception over his four games. Hamilton has struggled ever since, currently ranked second last in the CFL with a 5-12 record.

“I love this team, this locker room and this city. Being sidelined this year only reinforced how much I want to be out there competing with these guys,” Mitchell said. “I’m close to being fully recovered, recharged and excited about what’s ahead. I believe we have the people and the commitment to win here, and I am committed to bringing a championship back to Hamilton.”

The Tiger-Cats wrap their 2026 season at home on Saturday against the 1-16 Ottawa Redblacks.

Mitchell joined the Tiger-Cats in 2023 after spending the first 10 years of his career with the Calgary Stampeders.

His best season with the Ticats came last year when he threw for 5,296 yards with a career-high 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions alongside a 68.4 completion percentage over 18 games. Hamilton finished first in the East Division with an 11-7 record before losing to the Montreal Alouettes in the East Final.

Mitchell was named an East All-Star in 2024 and 2025.

“Our commitment to Hamilton is to give this city a team it can be proud of and a team that can win championships. That starts with great players and strong leaders who share that goal,” said Orlondo Steinauer, Tiger-Cats President of Football Operations.

“Since Bo arrived four years ago, he’s continued to work, compete and lead at a high level. He’s been a great teammate, has earned the respect of everyone in our organization and has embraced the Hamilton community. We’re proud to have him continue to lead us. His decision to stay, along with other key members, reflects the belief in what we’re building and the continued commitment from ownership to bringing a championship back to Hamilton.”

The Texas native won Grey Cups with the Stamps in 2014 and 2018, also capturing the CFL Most Outstanding Player Award in 2016 and 2018.

Over 211 career games in the CFL, Mitchell has produced 45,426 passing yards with 271 touchdowns and 129 interceptions.
