Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell exited his team’s game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday with an apparent significant lower-body injury.

The injury appeared to occur early in the third quarter, when Blue Bombers defensive lineman Jake Ceresna sacked Mitchell and rolled over his leg.

Mitchell immediately grabbed his left ankle and remained on the ground and was eventually taken away by ambulance.

The 36-year-old pivot gave the crowd a thumbs up while he was stretchered to the ambulance and the game was delayed with the teams unable to play without an ambulance on site.

Mitchell threw for 228 yards with 18 completions and a touchdown before the injury.

Tre Ford came into the game in relief of Mitchell, who is getting his first action as a Tiger-Cat since he was acquired in the off-season.

Mitchell has 879 passing yards with eight touchdowns and one interception in three games this season.

He is in his fourth season in Hamilton and led the CFL in passing yards (5,296) last season.

Mitchell is a two-time Grey Cup champion (2014, 2018) and a two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player (2016, 2018), all as a member of the Calgary Stampeders.

The 6-foot-1 quarterback has 45,198 passing yards with 270 touchdowns and 129 interceptions in his 14-season career split between the Stampeders and Tiger-Cats.

Hamilton entered Sunday’s action sitting second in the East Division with a 2-1 record.
