The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed American quarterback Jarret Doege.

The move comes after franchise pivot Bo Levi Mitchell was stretchered off early in the third quarter of Hamilton’s 14-13 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday after suffering a serious ankle injury.

“Bo Levi Mitchell underwent successful ankle surgery this morning and is in good spirits. We expect him to make a full recovery,” said Tiger-Cats president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer in a statement Monday.

“His focus now turns to the rehabilitation process, which he will approach with the same drive he has shown throughout his career. The support for Bo has been tremendous all around, especially from our incredible fanbase. We look forward to seeing Bo back on the field in Black and Gold.”

The Tiger-Cats’ quarterback room now features Doege alongside Jake Dolegala and Canadian Tre Ford, both of whom saw game action after Mitchell went down on Sunday.

The 28-year-old spent training camp with the BC Lions, but was ultimately a part of the team’s final roster cuts.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Doege dressed in all 18 regular season games for the Toronto Argonauts in 2025, making two starts. The Lubbock, Texas native completed 68.3 per cent of his 142 pass attempts last season to go along with 905 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Before Toronto, Doege spent parts of two seasons with the Edmonton Elks, dressing for 20 games (only appearing in four) while completing 63.2 per cent of his 43 pass attempts for 593 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions.
