Canadians Nick Taylor and Corey Conners both turned in third rounds under par on moving day at Augusta National on Saturday.
Taylor fired a 2-under 70, while Conners shot 1-under 71 as the two now turn their attention to Sunday’s final round.
Taylor, of Abbotsford, B.C., played a clean first nine with two birdies before making the turn, where he ran into trouble at Amen Corner.
Taylor’s tee shot found the bunker at the par-3 12th, and he needed two shots to get out of the bunker and onto the green. He would make his first bogey of the day but quickly got it back at the par-5 15th with an impressive approach that almost dropped in for eagle.
The five-time PGA Tour winner would bogey 17 after being forced to punch out following a wayward drive, but recovered nicely on 18 with his fourth birdie of the day to head into Sunday at 3-under in a tie for 20th.
Conners had an eventful 18 holes, making six birdies and five bogeys to put him at 3-over for the week. Conners made the cut on the number (4-over) on Friday.
The Listowel, Ont. native sat in a tie for 45 at the conclusion of his round, well back of leader Rory McIlroy at 12-under. McIlroy had yet to begin his round at the time Conners walked off 18 on Saturday.
Conners has been consistent at Augusta during his Masters career. The 34-year-old has made the cut in seven of his nine starts, finishing as high as a tie for sixth in 2022.
Mike Weir, the 2003 Masters champion, missed the cut with a score of 10-over for the week, but played well Friday afternoon with a 1-over 73.
