Kyle Cottam (Knoxville, Tennessee) birdied his last two holes for a 5-under 67 and a share of the lead with Marcus Byrd (Temple Hills, Maryland) at 8-under after Friday’s second round of the Dominican Republic Tour Championship presented by Scotiabank. The top 60 players on the PGA Tour Americas Points List qualified for this week’s season finale at PGA Ocean’s 4, and the top 10 players on Sunday’s final points list will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for 2027.

Cottam made history last month when he carded a 12-under 58, the sixth sub-60 round and lowest score in PGA Tour Americas history, in the third round of the Digital Commerce Group Open in Victoria, British Columbia. He went on to finish T5, and then one week later he closed the regular season with a T7 finish at the ATB Classic presented by Building Trades of Alberta.

A sixth-year pro out of Clemson (2017-22), Cottam earned membership for the first time this season via PGA Tour Americas Q-School in March. The rookie has six top-25s in 12 starts and entered the week No. 27 on the points list.

Tied with Cottam at the top of the leaderboard is Byrd, a seventh-year pro who has 11 wins on the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour, including a four-stroke victory in July at the APGA at TPC Deere Run. This season on PGA Tour Americas, Byrd has five top-25s, highlighted by a tie for third at the ECP Brazil Open, and he entered the week No. 39 on the points list.

Mesa Falleur (Muskogee, Oklahoma), the last man in the field at No. 60 on the points list, opened with rounds of 68-69 and is tied for third with Luis Gagne (San Jose, Costa Rica) at 7-under, while Connor Howe (Ogden, Utah) is fifth at 6-under.

Bryan Lee (Fairfax, Virginia) aced the 170-yard third hole with an 8-iron, his second hole-in-one in competition and first since the 2020 Junior Players Championship when he aced the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass. Lee shot 3-under 69 on Friday and is tied for sixth at 5-under alongside Dawson Armstrong (Spring Hill, Tennessee).
