Canadian golfers continue to battle it out in the FedEx Cup Fall

Published:

While the top 50 PGA Tour players on the FedEx Cup standings have already determined where they will play next year, the next 150 golfers are still battling it out in the FedEx Cup Fall.

There are golfers trying to finish the season ranked somewhere between 51 and 60 to get into the first two Signature events. Then there are the players hoping to be inside the top 100 so they have status for all full-field events as well as the Players. Golfers who end the season ranked 101 to 125 gain partially exempt status.

Just five events remain on the schedule, making each one vital for a player’s future.

Here’s how the Canadians fared last week:

The top Canadian finisher last week was A.J. Ewart, who posted a tie for 13th spot. That pushed him from 105 to 102 on the FedEx Cup list. In his rookie season, Ewart has been impressive but now must finish the year off with a surge.

He was a late addition to the field for this week’s Baycurrent Classic, held in Yokohama, Japan, but elected not to play. That was due to the fact that the late arrival wouldn’t allow him to see the course or prepare properly. He will be in the field for next week’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

Three other Canadians are within reach of the top 60. Sudarshan Yellamaraju is 60th, Corey Conners sits in 63rd place and Nick Taylor is 69th.

Yellamaraju tied for 45th spot at last week’s Bank of Utah Championship and fell two places. Coming in after a grind of a week at the Presidents Cup, Taylor ended up tied for 54th and dropped to 69th from 63rd. Conners was off last week and still slipped from 59th to 63rd.

Of the other Canadian golfers trying to make it inside the top 100, only Taylor Pendrith, currently ranked in 96th spot, is playing in Japan.

Mackenzie Hughes (118th), Ben Silverman (143) and Adam Svensson (177) are idle this week.

Adam Hadwin, who is 184th on the FedEx Cup list, is playing in the Korn Ferry Tour Championship this week. He is 54th on the points list and the top 60 retain full privileges for next season. Two more Canadians are also pushing for their status for next season. Drew Nesbitt is 42nd and Roger Sloan is 43rd.

This is the final event on the Korn Ferry Tour schedule.
