The PGA Tour makes its return to the Blue Monster at Miami’s Trump National Doral for the inaugural Cadillac Championship, a new Signature Event added to the schedule this year.

Dubbed ‘The Blue Monster’ for the many water hazards lining the fairways and protecting greens, Doral was previously a main stay on Tour, hosting 55 events dating back to 1962 before it was removed from the regular rotation after 2016.

In 2016, Adam Scott caught fire on the back-nine and surged for a one-stroke victory, holding off a star-studded leaderboard of Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Phil Mickelson, and Dustin Johnston for his 13th win on Tour.

This year, a similarly loaded field is set to tee it up on Thursday morning for the fifth Signature Event of the season.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is back in action this week following consecutive runner-up finishes at the Masters and RBC Heritage as his game rounds into form for his title defence at the PGA Championship in two weeks time.

Scheffler has not won on Tour this year since his season-opening victory at the American Express, but has found his way back towards the top of the leaderboard recently after failing to crack the top 20 in his two previous starts prior to the Masters.

The Players champion Cameron Young is also in the field, as are fellow top-10 Official World Golf Ranking players Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Russell Henley, and J.J. Spaun.

Four Canadians are also set to take on the Blue Monster with Corey Conners, Nick Taylor, Taylor Pendrith, and Sudarshan Yellamaraju all qualifying for the Signature Event. A.J. Ewart is currently listed as the 10th alternate for this week.

Conners appeared to have found his game to close out the Florida swing in March with back-to-back top-20 finishes, but has been unable to replicate the same success as the season has continued.

The Listowel, Ont. native posted a disappointing T49 finish at Augusta National followed by a T55 at the RBC Heritage, but could be in position to get things trending in the right direction as he returns to the Sunshine State this week.

Like Conners, Taylor has yet to find his A-game on Tour this year, owning just one top-15 finish coming at the season-opening Sony Open in Hawaii.

The Abbotsford, B.C. product missed the cut at the Valspar Championship and has since posted finishes of T28, T41, and T60. Taylor will be looking for a good result this week as he looks to turn things around with major season in full swing.

But perhaps the player in need of a good showing this week is Pendrith, who has missed three consecutive cuts following a T46 at The Players.

The Richmond Hill, Ont. native was also never in a spot to contend at Hilton Head two weeks ago, which as a Signature Event, did not have a half-way cut, but did show positive signs with a final-round 63, the second-best score on course that day.

Yellamaraju has enjoyed the most success on Tour this season among Canadians, with close calls in back-to-back weeks at The Players and the Houston Open.

Hailing from Mississauga, Ont., Yellamaraju did not qualify for the Masters this season and it appears the week off might have slowed his momentum as the PGA Tour rookie has since recorded a T52 and solo-34th finishes in starts at Harbour Town and the Zurich Classic on New Orleans.

The Cadillac Championship begins a string of three important weeks on Tour with another Signature Event, the Truist Championship, set to follow before the second major of the year tees off at Aronimink Golf Club for the 108th playing of the PGA Championship.
