Team Canada forward Sarah Fillier was not in the lineup against Sweden in the opening game at the 2026 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

Fillier was injured in Canada’s 4-0 pre-tournament loss to the United States a week ago. She took an awkward fall into the boards after she was shoved by USA defender Megan Keller.

She went straight to the bench before leaving for the locker room with a shoulder injury and did not return to the game.

The 26-year-old had nine goals with 23 points in 29 games last season with the New York Sirens in the PWHL. At the Olympics in February, she had three goals with six points in seven games as Canada earned silver.

Sara Manness, a second-year forward at Clarkson University, was also scratched from the tournament opener.

The 19-year-old has eight goals and 13 points in eight games in the NCAA this season.

With Fillier out of the lineup, winger Daryl Watts was elevated to the top line as Canada also dressed eight defenders.

After Friday’s contest against Sweden, Canada will face Japan on Sunday, followed by host Denmark on Monday before they wrap up group play on Nov. 11 against Finland.
