Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday that forwards Porter Martone and Dawson Mercer will join the roster for the 2026 IIHF men’s World Championship that kicks off on Friday in Switzerland.

The tournament runs from May 15 to 31 in Zurich and Fribourg.

Martone spent the majority of the 2025-26 season in the NCAA at Michigan State, where he scored 25 goals and 50 points in 35 games.

He signed his three-year, entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on March 29 and skated in nine regular-season games, scoring four goals with 10 points.

The 2025 sixth-overall pick also skated in 10 playoff games for the Flyers, scoring two goals with three assists as the team was swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.

Martone also captained Canada to the bronze medal at this year’s World Juniors, and led the tournament in goals with six.

Mercer is coming off his fifth season with the New Jersey Devils. In 2025-26, he had 20 goals with 42 points in 82 games.

He has previously represented Canada at the IIHF Worlds twice in his career, earning silver in 2022 along with a fourth-place finish in 2024.

Ahead of Sunday’s 6-1 pre-tournament win over France, San Jose Sharks superstar Macklin Celebrini was named captain with John Tavares and Ryan O’Reilly as alternate captains.

Canada plays its first game on Friday against reigning bronze medalist Sweden and are skating in Group B alongside Sweden, Czechia, Denmark, Slovakia, Norway, Slovenia and Italy.
