Canada comes into the 2026 Olympics as the reigning gold medalists after taking the title in 2022 in Beijing.

In addition to winning gold in 2022, it was a record-breaking Olympics for Canada. Forward Brianne Jenner took home Olympic MVP honours after leading the tournament with nine goals.

Since Olympic women’s hockey was introduced in 1998 at the Nagano Games, Canada has won gold five times (2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2022) with two silver medals (1998, 2018).

The United States enter the Olympics as the reigning world champions after winning the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championships with a 4-3 overtime win over Canada in the gold-medal game in Czechia.

Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin is set to lace up for her fifth Olympic Games, having won three gold medals and one silver. Former Team Canada members Hayley Wickenheiser and Jayna Hefford hold the women’s hockey record with five Olympic medals – both own four golds and one silver.

Canada is in Group A alongside the United States, Finland, Czechia and Switzerland while Group B consists of Germany, Swede, Japan, Italy and France.

The tournament kicks off Feb. 5 and runs until the 19th.
