Parekh sets record for points by Canadian defenceman in single World Juniors tournament

Zayne Parekh now stands alone in Canadian World Juniors history, setting a new mark for points from a defenceman with his 13th of the 2026 tournament.

Parekh tied the mark with a goal in the first period of the bronze medal game on Monday and moved into first with an assist in the second frame.

The 19-year-old surpassed previous record holders Alex Pietrangelo (2010) and Bryan McCabe (1995).

Parekh has six goals and seven assists over seven games for Canada.

The Markham, Ont. native was selected ninth overall in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames.

Parekh has skated in 12 NHL games for the Flames and has a goal and an assist.
