Shane Bieber gave up back-to-back-to-back solo home runs to the Houston Astros in his first start for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2026.

Bieber surrendered four runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings with the Blue Jays.

The 31-year-old unraveled in the fourth inning, giving up three consecutive solo home runs to Yainer Diaz, Cam Smith, and Taylor Trammel.

Bieber was replaced by Tommy Nance with runners on first and third with two out. After intentionally walking Yordan Alvarez, Nance got Christian Walker to fly out to end the inning.

In his return, Bieber struck out two, bringing his career total 997.

Luis Urias hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Astros lead to 4-2. It’s Urias’ first game with the Blue Jays after he was acquired in a trade with Arizona Diamondbacks.

Bieber missed the beginning of the 2026 season due to a right elbow injury. He last pitched for the Blue Jays in the 11th inning of Game 7 of the World Series. He gave up the championship-winning home run to Will Smith.

Monday’s 4-2 win for the Blue Jays brought them to 39-39 on the season. They sit third in the AL East, 7.5 games back of the Yankees for the division lead. They hold a one game lead over the Athletics and the Texas Rangers for the final AL Wild Card spot.
