The Toronto Blue Jays got a solid outing from right-hander Shane Bieber Tuesday in Game 4 of the World Series.
Bieber held the Los Angeles Dodgers to just one run in 5.1 innings and departed with the lead as the Blue Jays aim to even things up facing a 2-1 series deficit.
Bieber gave up four hits while walking three and striking out three in his 81 pitches.
Manager John Schneider made the call to the bullpen after Bieber had allowed two of the first three hitters to reach base in the sixth. Left-hander Mason Fluharty came on to face lefty Max Muncy and retired both Munch and switch-hitter Tommy Edman to escape the jam and keep Toronto out in front.
The Jays then added four runs in the top half of the seventh to make things 6-1 late in Game 4.
Bieber’s outing was a nice bounce-back from his performance in Game 7 of the AL Championship Series, when he allowed two runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings.
He now owns a postseason ERA of 3.57 in four outings this Fall.
Game 5 will go Wednesday from Dodger Stadium with Trey Yesavage getting the ball against Blake Snell in a rematch of Game 1.
