Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Addison Barger was lifted from Sunday’s 3-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox in the bottom of the sixth inning with bilateral ankle discomfort, the team announced.

Barger, 26, was seen labouring after extending to reach first base while attempting to beat out a groundball in the bottom of the third.

He was replaced by Jesus Sanchez to begin the home half of the sixth.

“Hopefully he’s all right,” manager John Schneider said after the game via Mitch Bannon of The Athletic. “Hopefully it’s just a day or two, or maybe not even a day.”

This week, the Blue Jays placed right-hander Cody Ponce and catcher Alejandro Kirk on the injured list, joining Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, Jose Berrios, Yimi Garcia, Bowden Francis, and Anthony Santander on the sidelines.

Barger, a native of Bellevue, Wash., has struggled in the early-goings of the 2026 season with just one hit in 16 at-bats, adding a run scored and two RBI.

A sixth-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2018, Barger broke out last season in his second year in the big leagues with a slash line of 243/.301/.451 to go along with 21 home runs and 74 RBI.

Toronto (4-5) was swept by the White Sox Sunday to extend their losing streak to four games, and now return home for a World Series rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
