Blue Jays’ Bateman exits vs. Rays with right hamstring tightness

Published:

Toronto Blue Jays centre fielder Brett Bateman left Wednesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays with right hamstring tightness, the team announced.

Bateman, 24, was seen grabbing at the back of his right leg after attempting to beat out a groundball to end the top of the third.

The rookie outfielder walked gingerly back to the dugout, but would head back out to centre field for the bottom half of the inning.

However, he would later be subbed out ahead of his next at-bat, giving way to Myles Straw in the leadoff spot in the top of the fifth.

Bateman has slashed .283/.327/.326 with two doubles, three walks, and four RBI in 11 games since making his big league debut on Aug. 7.

The Saint Paul, Minn. native was acquired by Toronto alongside Ty Southisene last month ahead of the trade deadline in the deal for Kevin Gausman.
