Blue Jays’ Berrios allows five runs over 2.2 innings in Dunedin rehab start

Published:

Toronto Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios allowed five runs on five hits over 2.2 innings, with three strikeouts and a walk in his rehab start in Dunedin on Thursday as he works his way back to the major league roster.

Berrios got the start for the Single-A Blue Jays against the Clearwater Threshers, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, and threw 47 pitches, 39 for strikes.

The 31-year-old began the 2026 season on the injured list after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right elbow.

The injury was discovered after Berrios underwent an MRI as he was trying to play for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.

Berrios made three appearances in Spring Training and posted a 1-0 record with a 3.38 ERA in 10.2 innings before he was shut down with the injury.

He finished last year on the injured list with right elbow inflammation after posting a 9-5 mark with a 4.17 ERA in 31 appearances for the Blue Jays and did not make an appearance during their post-season run to the World Series.

Berrios has a 108-82 career record with a 4.08 ERA over 275 career games with the Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins.
