The Toronto Blue Jays could soon be getting some reinforcements for their depleted starting rotation.
Starter Trey Yesavage is scheduled to make another rehab appearance next Tuesday or Wednesday and could approach 70 pitches in what could be his final rehab start before rejoining the big club, reports MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.
Matheson also reports that Jose Berrios will likely begin a minor-league rehab assignment next week and will aim for 50 pitches in his first outing.
Yesavage, 22, threw 52 pitches, 34 of them for strikes, over 2.2 innings of work in his previous rehab start on Thursday. He allowed four earned runs on four singles, striking out six and walking one.
Yesavage is working his way back from a right shoulder impingement that kept him sidelined from appearing in game action during spring training. He is currently on the 15-day injured list.
Berrios, 31, is working his way back from a stress fracture in his right elbow. Last season, Berrios posted a 9-5 record in 31 starts with an earned run average of 4.17 and 1.301 WHIP over 166.0 innings pitched.
Berrios is set to enter the fifth season of a seven-year, $131 million contract that contains a player opt-out following the 2026 season.
