Shane Bieber pitched five scoreless innings against the Syracuse Mets in his second rehab start with the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday.

He gave up five hits while striking out four batters on 62 pitches. His four-seam fastball had an average velocity of 91.3 mph. The Bisons took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning.

It was Bieber’s second rehab start with the Triple-A Bisons. In his previous start against the Worcester Red Sox on June 6, Bieber gave up three runs on six hits in 2.2 innings.

Bieber missed the first two months of the MLB season with forearm fatigue. His last start for the Toronto Blue Jays was in Game 4 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, during which he gave up one run in 5.1 innings.

He also pitched for the Blue Jays in the 11th inning of Game 7. He gave up a solo home run to Will Smith, which would be the winning run for the Dodgers.

Alejandro Kirk hit a double in the third inning as the Bisons designated hitter.

It’s Kirk third game with the Bisons as part of his rehab assignment. He has not played with the Blue Jays since April 3 against the Chicago White Sox due to a left thumb fracture.
