The Toronto Blue Jays have traded catcher Tyler Heineman to the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations, the team announced on Wednesday.
Heineman, 34, slashed .154/.205/.205 with one home run and six RBI in 31 games for the Blue Jays this season.
The 5-foot-10 catcher played parts of three seasons in Toronto, acting primarily as the backup catcher to Alejandro Kirk.
The move comes after Kirk returned from the injured list and the team opting to keep rookie catcher Brandon Valenzuela, who is hitting .254 with seven home runs with 18 RBI in 47 games this season.
Drafted in the eighth round by the Houston Astros in 2012, Heineman has a career .226 batting average with five home runs and 41 RBI split between the Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants, Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Boston Red Sox.
The Blue Jays sit in third place in the American League East with a 35-38 record and are 10 games back of the New York Yankees for first place.
