Blue Jays decline Straw’s club option for 2027

The Toronto Blue Jays have declined outfielder Myles Straw’s $8 million club option for 2027, it was announced Monday evening.

Instead, Straw will receive a $1.75 million buyout, which is being paid by the Cleveland Guardians, according to Spotrac.

Straw originally signed a five-year, $25 million contract with Cleveland at the beginning of the 2022 season that included club options for the 2027 and 2028 campaigns.

Straw has been with the Blue Jays the previous two seasons after being acquired in January of 2025 in exchange for cash considerations. He slashed .241/.304/.342 with three home runs and 26 RBI in 146 games this past season.

The year before, Straw hit .262 with 12 stolen bases and a .680 OPS while being in the 90th percentile in fielding run value, per MLB Statcast.

All in all, Straw is a nine-year MLB veteran who split the previous seven seasons between the Guardians and Houston Astros.

He is a .246 hitter in 845 career regular-season games.

Other Blue Jays moves

The Jays announced a series of moves Monday, including outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. electing free agency after being assigned to Triple-A Buffalo last week.

He appeared in two games with the Jays in September after being selected off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles in July.

Right-hander CJ Van Eyk cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo. He had a 5.40 ERA in five appearances with Toronto in 2026.

Additionally, Jose Berrios, Jake Bloss, Addison Barger, Anthony Santander, Cody Ponce, Jonatan Clase and Bowden Francis were all reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday night.
