Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was removed from their game against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday with right hamstring tightness, the team announced.
Guerrero went 1-for-2 with a single to shallow left field before he was pulled in middle of the fourth inning. Kazuma Okamoto replaced Guerrero off the bench at first base.
Guerrero is in the midst of a disastrous season at the dish and has been a large factor in the team’s overall struggles.
He is hitting a respectable .265, but has just six home runs and is slugging a career-worst .356.
The 27-year-old Guerrero had shown some signs of a resurgence since the All-Star break, hitting .289 with three doubles over his past 12 games. The slugging first baseman elected not to attend the All-Star game - it would have been his sixth appearance at the Midsummer Classic - as he chose to focus on hitting and rounding into form.
The Blue Jays entered Tuesday’s game at 49-58, last in the American League East and ahead of just three teams in the American League standings.
