Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes exited Friday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians in the first inning with an apparent injury.
Lukes led off the game with a double to right field but appeared to injure himself sliding into second base.
The Blue Jays’ medical staff came out to look at him and immediately took him out of the game.
Toronto was trailing 5-0 to the Guardians at the time of the injury.
Lukes was slashing .235/.273/.294 with eight RBI heading into Friday’s game. He was in the middle of a hot streak over his last six games with 10 hits in his last 20 at bats.
The 31-year-old outfielder had a breakout season in 2025, batting .255 with 12 home runs and 65 RBI in his first full season in the Major Leagues. He also registered 17 hits and eight RBI during the Blue Jays’ run to the World Series last year.
Toronto entered Friday’s action in fourth place in the American League East with a 10-14 record and are a five and a half games behind the New York Yankees for top spot in the division.
