Blue Jays move struggling pitcher Corbin to bullpen

Published:

The Toronto Blue Jays are moving struggling left-hander Patrick Corbin to the bullpen, manager John Schneider told reporters Tuesday via MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.

Wednesday’s Canada Day starter is currently to be determined, though righty Spencer Miles will likely play a big role like he has in past bullpen days, according to Matheson.

Corbin, 36, has started 15 games for the Blue Jays this season after being signed to a one-year, $2 million deal in April.

Corbin started strong and helped fill a void in the team’s rotation while they were dealing with injuries. But after posting a 3.65 ERA in his first 10 outings, Corbin has been scuffling of late with a 8.69 ERA in his last five starts. His ERA for the season sits at 5.09.

Corbin is a 14-year MLB veteran who has made two All-Star teams and won the World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019.

The Blue Jays enter play Tuesday five games under .500 at 40-45.
