Blue Jays OF Lukes homers in rehab game with Single-A Dunedin

Published:

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes sent a home run over the centrefield wall in his second rehab game with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays on Thursday.

The blast was one of two hits on the day for the 31-year-old, who is on the injured list with a hamstring injury. He finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored, and was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Lukes has been on the shelf with a hamstring strain in his left leg since April 24. He had begun to run the bases prior to being sent to Dunedin on the rehab assignment.

Lukes dealt with vertigo earlier this season that contributed to a slow start. He found his swing a week before the hamstring injury sent him to the IL and improved his on-base plus slugging percentage more than .250 points in his final six games before going down.

All in all, Lukes is slashing .250/.286/.327 with zero home runs and eight RBI in 20 games so far this season.

The struggling Blue Jays complete their series against the New York Yankees on Thursday seeking a series split, after winning one of the first three games. Toronto enters play on Thursday at 22-27, 11.5 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays and 7.5 games behind the Yankees.
