Toronto Blue Jays infielder Kazuma Okamoto became the 10th player in franchise history to hit a home run into the 500 level at the Rogers Centre on Friday.
Okamoto blasted an 87 mile per hour slider from New York Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers to left field, landing in the fifth deck at a distance of 423 feet.
The blast gave Toronto an early 3-0 lead over the Yankees in the first game of their three-game set.
Okamoto joins Joe Carter, Carlos Delgado, Jose Canseco, Shawn Green, Raul Mondesi, Josh Phelps, Vernon Wells, Edwin Encarnacion, and Josh Donaldson as the only Blue Jays to reach the fifth deck with a home run.
He also becomes the 19th player in MLB history to reach the 500-level with a home run since the building opened in 1989.
Okamoto is slashing .230/.309/.422 entering Friday’s game with 13 home runs and 38 RBI in his first season in the majors.
The Blue Jays entered Friday’s action in third place in the American League East with a 33-36 record and are nine games back of the Tampa Bay Rays and Yankees for top spot.
