Joe Mantiply is headed to the injured list.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed the left-handed reliever on the 15-day IL with left knee inflammation, the team announced Tuesday. The move is retroactive to May 18.

Right-hander Chase Lee was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

Mantiply, 35, last pitched on Sunday in Toronto’s 4-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers. He allowed one hit and one walk in 2/3 of an inning.

The veteran hurler has been one of John Schneider’s top options out of the bullpen this season, pitching to a 2.04 earned-run average and 1.13 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 17.2 innings.

Lee, 27, has made one appearance at the big league level for Toronto this season, allowing one run over 1.1 innings pitched during a 5-0 loss to the Boston Red Sox on April 27.

He was optioned back to Triple-A one day later to make room for right-handed starter Trey Yesavage on the active roster.

The Blue Jays send Dylan Cease to the mound opposite Will Warren on Tuesday as they continue their four-game set against the New York Yankees in the Bronx.
