The Toronto Blue Jays placed Cy Young contending starter Dylan Cease on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, as they completed a series of roster moves following their elimination from playoff contention on Wednesday.
Pitchers Chase Lee and CJ Van Eyk have both been recalled from Triple A Buffalo and will both be available for the second game of their doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles.
Pitcher José Rodríguez was optioned to the Spring Training Complex to clear up the second roster spot.
Cease’s first season with the Jays comes to an end after 29 starts and 169 innings.
The 30-year-old posted an 11-6 record with a 2.40 ERA and 239 strikeouts over the 2026 campaign.
He struggled with lower velocity down the stretch which eventually led to him having a late-season MRI that showed he would not require surgery.
Lee has appeared in seven games this season for the Jays at the MLB level and has a 1-0 record and 7.88 ERA over eight innings.
Van Eyk has pitched in four games and is 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA.
