Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann continues to have issues with his throwing arm.

Tiedemann, who did not pitch last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2024, felt soreness in his left elbow after a recent side session.

An MRI came back clean, but he is expected to miss a week, according to Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The 23-year-old native of Long Beach, Calif., was selected by the Blue Jays in the third-round of the 2021 MLB Draft and eventually became the organization’s top prospect entering the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

After recording a 2.17 ERA and 117 strikeouts across 18 starts (78.2 innings pitched) in Single and Double-A during the 2022 minor league seasons, Tiedemann compiled a 3.68 ERA with 82 strikeouts over 44 innings in 2023, making 11 more starts in Double-A and one in Triple-A.

In 2024, the left-handed pitcher made eight minor-league starts before needing surgery in late July and hasn’t been able to pitch in a game since.

Tiedemann dropped to fourth on the Blue Jays’ top prospects list for the 2025 season.

Surgery possible for Chay Yeager

In other injury news, right-handed pitcher Chay Yeager also had some elbow discomfort last week.

The 23-year-old is scheduled to meet with renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister with Schneider saying “surgery is on the table for him.”

Selected by the Blue Jays in the 12th round of the 2023 MLB Draft, Yeager went 5-4 with a 2.75 ERA and 64 strikeouts over 55.2 innings pitched in High Single-A and Double-A last season.
