Scherzer has been on the injured list since late April with right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation.
The 41-year-old appeared in five games this season before he was placed on the 15-day IL and posted a 1-3 record with a 9.64 ERA with 10 strikeouts over 18.2 innings.
Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, is in his second season with the Blue Jays after signing a one-year deal prior to the 2025 campaign.
He pitched to a 5-5 record with a 5.19 ERA in 17 starts during the regular season and made three postseason appearances, including a start in Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Jays then signed Scherzer to another one-year deal to return to the team.
The St. Louis native is an eight-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion and has appeared for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Texas Rangers and Blue Jays over the course of his 19-year MLB career.
Scherzer is one strikeout away from becoming the 11th pitcher in MLB history to reach 3,500 for his career.
