Toronto Blue Jays veteran pitcher Max Scherzer has been removed from the Injured List and will get the start against his former team in the Washington Nationals on Monday.
Scherzer, who turned 42 on Monday, hasn’t pitched since June 10 as he’s dealt with issues with his thumb and back.
Scherzer is coming off a solid rehab start last Wednesday, throwing five innings of no-hit ball in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons against the Rochester Red Wings.
In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Braydon Fisher was placed on the restricted list (bereavement).
After a starting the 2026 season strong with a six inning performance against the Colorado Rockies on March 31, Scherzer has struggled considerably, posting a record of 1-4 with a 10.23 ERA over six total starts. He’s recorded 14 strikeouts with 11 walks and nine home runs over 22 innings pitched.
Scherzer also missed the month of May with an injury.
The three-time Cy Young winner is playing in his 17th MLB season and second with the Jays after signing a one-year, $3 million contract in the off-season.
Scherzer won a World Series with the Nationals in 2019 and pitched in Game 7 of last year’s World Series as the Jays fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Fisher, 26, owns a 4.15 ERA over 50 games with the Blue Jays in 2026, his second season in Toronto.
