Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Luis Urias has left Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs in the fourth inning with an apparent lower-body injury.
Urias, 29, appeared to hurt himself while running the bases following his double in the top half of the fourth.
The Magdalena de Kino, Mexico native pulled up before rounding first base before legging out the double off of Cubs lefty David Peterson.
Manager John Schneider and a member of the training staff went out to check on Urias at second base following the play, but the infielder initially stayed in the game after testing out the injury with a light jog to the outfield.
Urias would be stranded at second and would not come back out to begin the bottom half of the inning.
Ernie Clement shifted over from third base to man second, while trade-deadline acquisition Josh Smith replaced Urias in the lineup and took over the hot corner.
Urias has slashed .240/.316/.460 with three home runs and eight RBI in 50 at-bats for the Blue Jays this season.
This comes as the latest injury blow for Toronto, who placed starter Trey Yesavage on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with knee inflammation and are without Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the second straight game on Thursday.
According to Schneider, Guerrero is not dealing with anything “major”, describing him as “tight, tired.”
